The Exterminating Angel

Buñuel is a director I admire a lot. I’ve seen almost all of his films. THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL has a very strong influence on me because I love this kind of absurd, surreal style. He uses this style to reflect reality and express his criticism of society. My film *A Touch of Sin* has a similar narrative structure, with four different stories. The ending, where a group of tourists ask 'Is anyone here?' in a deserted town, is an homage to THE EXTERMINATING ANGEL.

I watched a lot of Buñuel before writing this film. I was very inspired by his satire on the bourgeoisie, especially films like *The Exterminating Angel* and *The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie*.

Altman cites Luis Buñuel's surrealist fantasies *The Exterminating Angel* (1962) and *L'Age d'Or* (1930) as influences on the film.

I just try to be specific with the themes and issues that I want to deal with, and then I try to find a way to make them original and surprising. I think films like Bunuel’s The Exterminating Angel are a good example of that.

This film [The Exterminating Angel] is an amazing examination of our social contracts, class, and group behavior. It’s one of the best examples of how surrealism can explain reality and how our social behaviors are absurd when analyzed from the outside.

Buñuel did *The Exterminating Angel*, and that was a movie that inspired me when I was a teenager. When people are stuck in a place and they can’t escape. It was just an idea that I had, and I thought, okay, I’m going to use it for *Climax*.

The Exterminating Angel by Luis Buñuel. It's a surrealist film about a group of rich people who can’t leave a party. Parasite starts with a different kind of setup, but then becomes something similar.
