Shoot the Piano Player

I wanted to make a film noir. I had read Goodis's novel 'Down There,' which seemed like a perfect base. My initial idea was to do something in the spirit of Jean-Pierre Melville's first films, particularly the spontaneity and mix of reality with genre that he achieved in *Bob le flambeur*.
