Terence Davies, discussing his general filmmaking approach and the directors who showed him 'how to film,' explicitly mentioned 'Ordet' (1955) by Carl Theodor Dreyer alongside Bresson's 'Au hasard Balthazar'. This fundamental influence on his cinematic language is evident throughout his body of work, including 'The Long Day Closes'.
