Insurance adjuster Keibu Wakatsuki receives an anonymous phone call from a woman who wants to know if his Showa Corporation will pay out on a policy if the holder suicides. Soon he’s sent to the home of Shigenori Komoda, a thumbless man whose missing digit the adjuster’s company thinks may not be accidental.
