Suspiria
Where the DNA of Suspiria travels
Films that shaped it
-
I’m obsessed by the psychological horror of Repulsion or The Tenant. Polanski’s movies.

I grew up with Dario Argento's films. I remember seeing them very early on. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (L’uccello dalle piume di cristallo, 1970) and The Cat o’ Nine Tails (Il gatto a nove code, 1971) were two of the first movies I ever saw in a cinema, so they are part of my aesthetic memory.
-
I went back to a lot of movies that were scary but also sexy. Movies like Paul Schrader’s 'Cat People,' 'The Hunger,' 'Possession.' I wanted to create a sense of eroticism and danger.
-
When I was thinking about how to depict the horror that was in the story of Suspiria, I was thinking about films like Come and See, a masterpiece by Elem Klimov, but also [Francis Ford Coppola's] Apocalypse Now.

David Fincher. Fight Club, for instance, is a masterpiece. But there’s also The Social Network, which taught me so much about dialogue and how to portray emotions through a fast-paced, complex narrative.
