Mauvais sang
Films that shaped it

Keaton is one of the greatest actors, greatest directors of all time. He's very mysterious. My cinema is physical, like his. I love that silence in his films, that distance with people.
-
My films are very close to my early days in cinema. I have always loved films by Renoir, Vigo, Godard... and also silent films.
-
My first three films [Boy Meets Girl, Mauvais Sang, Les Amants du Pont-Neuf] were very much about love and very much about youth, and in a way I was trying to tell stories that didn’t exist in contemporary cinema... I was very inspired by silent cinema, by people like Murnau, and also by the French New Wave, Godard in particular. But it was more of an atmosphere, a certain freedom, a way of approaching filmmaking. It wasn’t about specific scenes or specific films.

the motion capture the scene when Denis is running, which was close to a scene I had done in Mauvais sang

Mommy owes as much to Mauvais Sang by Leos Carax as to A Woman Under the Influence by John Cassavetes.
