Bresson is one of those filmmakers who, when you look back, so many people tried to take from him. You see it in early Malle films like Le Feu Follet... People wanted to appropriate that style and that rigor, that self-denial. And Bresson had a certain puritanical attitude, and that speaks to my roots.

I used to rewatch Louis Malle’s The Fire Within [Le Feu Follet] every year. That film to me is a masterpiece, and obviously, it has a lot to do with Oslo, August 31st.
