Of course, Roma and La dolce vita are works that you cannot pretend to ignore when you take on a film like the one I wanted to make. They are two masterpieces... So I can't deny that those films are indelibly stamped on me and may have guided my film.

Yeah, because it’s a mosaic. It has a dreamlike quality and I think Fellini was an influence on us, you know, La Dolce Vita and his other films. He was a master of that, and I was going for something that had a certain amount of reality, but also a certain sense of unreality as well. I think it’s possible that what you’re saying is true, because my aesthetic is influenced by the masters of cinema, among them Fellini. I didn’t have “La Dolce Vita” in mind when I was shooting, but of course it is a film that belongs to my cinema culture, so it’s possible.
