I knew I wanted to do a prison picture, and I think that, for example, 'A Man Escaped' is one of the greatest films ever made. Bresson is a huge influence, but I'm not attempting to be Bresson in any way.

I was looking to find some inspiration about the road movie, and that was Jim Jarmusch, especially 'Stranger Than Paradise' and 'Down By Law.' And for the more melancholic, a little bit more reflective parts, there was Wim Wenders with 'Paris, Texas'.
