I love Hong Kong films, the Shaw Brothers, King Hu, particularly his films like 'Come Drink With Me' and 'A Touch of Zen,' those inspired me a lot.

We looked at a lot of martial arts films. We looked at a lot of Hong Kong action films, King Hu films. I mean, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is a giant one, which is kind of combining that stuff with more emotional, slower storytelling.

One of the things I definitely wanted to do with Kill Bill was, not only do a Shaw Brothers movie, but also do a King Hu movie. And 'Come Drink With Me' (1966) and 'A Touch of Zen' (1971) were definitely on the brain.
