I remember seeing for example Fassbinder's 'Berlin Alexanderplatz' where he used that kind of very artificial studio-style shooting and I remember when I decided for the first part of 'Tabu' to shoot in studio it was a reference to that. And I wanted to make the city artificial.

I love Béla Tarr, I love Hou Hsiao-Hsien, I love Kiarostami, I love Fassbinder's Berlin Alexanderplatz, all these films are very important to me because they opened up new possibilities for filmmaking.
