Amour
Films it shaped

I look at directors like Michael Haneke. He’s influenced me heavily from the very beginning. His whole filmography. Even a film like Amour, the way that he uses static shots, and you feel the weight of what’s happening, and that’s what I wanted to accomplish on this film, especially for some of the scenes where I wanted to just sit in it.

When you deal with this subject, you think about films like Amour by Haneke, and it was a source of inspiration as well. Even though my film is very different, you want to follow some traces in terms of the cinematic approach.

I’m very proud of ‘Vortex,’ and I think it’s the best movie I’ve ever done. It’s very different from the other ones. It’s much more realistic, with less music, less camera tricks, and it’s very tender. It’s also probably influenced by Michael Haneke's ‘Amour,’ because it's a film about the ending of a love story when you get really old.
