Accattone
Films it shaped
-
I saw 'Accattone' in the film club at university and it had a great influence on me. It was important for me to understand that you could shoot with a non-professional actor and it was okay for them not to be brilliant.
-
Pasolini is one of the ten filmmakers who has influenced me the most. He was so bold and brave. 'Salo' and 'Accattone' are masterpieces.

I watched Pasolini’s 'Accattone' again and thought, ‘Wow, this is a movie that I don’t think people could make today.’ It’s so raw and so real, and it’s just not precious. It's like a document in a way. I think it influenced me in certain ways, to just try to go as far as you can with the form.

I had been watching Pasolini’s 'Accattone' and 'Mamma Roma', and the work of John Huston – a whole bunch of things.
